What are the Fundamental Principles of Osteopathy?Anatomy (structure) and Physiology (function) are interconnected. The body has an innate self-healing and self-regulating mechanism. The body, mind, and spirit are one unit of function. Treatment must be based on the above principles

How many treatments will I need? When you visit a manual osteopath, care is centered around you as an individual. Your practitioner will consider your personal health history, current symptoms, and lifestyle factors to create a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs. To help you reach your health goals effectively, we aim to set clear expectations regarding the recommended number of sessions. For acute conditions, relief may be achieved within 4 to 8 treatments over few days or weeks. However, more chronic or complex issues that have lasted longer may require a longer course of care, typically ranging from 6 to 12 sessions.

What should I expect post-treatment?Following treatment, the body undergoes structural adjustments as it begins to realign and adapt. This means the body has had imbalances that will need to adjust to it's "new normal". It is not uncommon to experience mild discomfort or temporary physiological responses, such as a headache, in the days after treatment as the body integrates these changes.

What are the Benefits of Osteopathy?Osteopathic treatments offer several benefits, including improved circulation, enhanced alignment and posture, and better joint and muscle mobility. They can help reduce pain in muscles and joints, as well as accelerate healing and recovery from injuries, surgeries, colds, flu, and accidents. Many patients also experience improved sleep, increased energy, and a reduction in overall aches and pains.

What should I expect during a treatment? Each treatment starts with a comprehensive full-body assessment to identify any areas of restricted motion or abnormal movement patterns. The process is personalized and meticulous, aiming to promote normal physiological function and mobility. The goal is to make subtle adjustments that the body can naturally integrate and adapt to. Typically, multiple sessions are required to achieve the desired outcomes, with the frequency and duration depending on individual factors. Overall, the treatment is gentle and tailored to target the specific areas that need attention.

What is Classical OsteopathyClassical Osteopathy, founded in 1874 by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, is a holistic and drug-free form of manual medicine that is recognized as the first scientifically-based manual therapy. Osteopathic treatments, which are gentle and hands-on, are effective in addressing a wide range of symptoms the body may experience. Osteopathic practitioners utilize their comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to assess and treat the body as a whole. Guided by a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology, osteopathic practitioners use palpation skills to assess the joints, muscles, and other structures of the body, identifying the root causes of symptoms rather than merely treating the symptoms themselves. The primary goal is to restore the body’s natural healing ability by optimizing body mechanics, enhancing nerve function, and improving circulation. By doing so, osteopathy helps to improve overall movement and physiological function, supporting the body’s inherent capacity for self-healing and self-regulation. Treatments are personalized and tailored to meet the specific needs of the body at any given time, rather than being based on a fixed time frame.

What should I wear to a treatment? We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment to ensure ease of movement during treatment. If you have long hair, a mid-to-high bun is preferred to allow better access and comfort. Additionally, we suggest removing accessories such as earrings, watches, and long necklaces prior to your session.
